Warning: The following content contains spoilers for the show Brooklyn Nine-Nine. If you have not watched the show and plan on watching it, please stop reading here.

The show Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013-2021) is a New York police sitcom focusing on the life of the detectives in the 99th precinct of the NYPD. The talented and immature Detective Jake Peralta, his captain Raymond Holt, and the rest of the squad have an annual Halloween Heist where they compete to steal a specific object and have it in their possession at midnight on Halloween. The winner of this heist wins the title of “Amazing Detective/Genius”, later coined as “Amazing Human/Genius”. There are 8 total Halloween Heist episodes, spanning across all 8 seasons of the show. Even though all of these episodes are great, I do have my favourites and here is what I think of these episodes :

Season 1, Episode 6: Halloween, 9/10

This episode was where the first heist began. Jake plans to steal Holt’s medal of valour from his office. Throughout the episode it seemed as if Jake was losing the bet, but in reality, all of the “setbacks” faced were part of the plan to steal the medal. This episode displayed teamwork, determination and that you shouldn’t underestimate anyone. The whole squad worked together to help Jake. In the end, Jake was the winner of the bet, and Captain Holt was stuck doing the whole squad’s paperwork for the night. This episode was very entertaining, and kept my attention throughout. I would give it a 9/10.

Season 2, Episode 4: Halloween II, 6/10

In this episode Jake attempted to steal Holt’s watch. Throughout the episode, both of them try to outsmart each other with various tricks. Jake hired a “con-man” to steal the watch, but the con-man conned him which led to Jake getting arrested in an impound. In the end it turns out that Holt had the watch all along, and the whole squad was on Holt’s side, just to see Jake get humiliated. This episode was funny, but there were definitely better halloween heist episodes, so I would give this episode a 6/10.

Season 3, Episode 5: Halloween III, 8/10

This Halloween Heist was not only between Jake and Holt, but instead the whole squad was included and split into two teams. The objective for this heist was to steal a crown. I liked how characters had alliances, and secret alliances. Through this episode, we got to see the competitive and strategist sides of the detectives of the 99th precinct. I found Rosa’s part in this episode pretty incredible, as she in her own words “somersaulted through a window, cut the crown out of a briefcase, and replaced everything in under a minute.” In the end, Amy won the heist, which is something I did not expect. She outsmarted everyone after they excluded her from the heist, and she also made them run up 31 flights of stairs. I give this episode an 8/10.

Season 4, Episode 5: Halloween IV, 8.5/10

This heist was fast-paced and intense, with betrayals happening constantly. The object of the heist this time was a plaque which read “Amazing Detective/ Genius”, and it was hard to trust anyone. Gina played a large role in this episode, and ends up getting her teeth knocked out. In the middle of the episode, all three teams realize that they all have replica plaques. The real plaque was with this time’s Halloween Heist winner: Gina. She had faked knocking her tooth out, so no one would suspect her. Whenever Gina is in the spotlight, she is always entertaining. I would give this episode an 8.5/10.

Season 5, Episode 4: HalloVeen, 10/10

This episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine was for a championship belt (or as Holt calls it, a cumberbund). Terry ends up eating several GPS trackers hidden in his yogurt, and Charles betrays his best friend Jake. Holt’s dog Cheddar makes an appearance in order to stead the cumberbund, but a replacement dog is sent back to Holt. What makes this episode truly memorable, is the ending of the episode when Amy finds the belt Jake hid. When she reads the inscription on the belt, it says “Amy Santiago, will you marry me?” and she turns around to see Jake down on one knee. Even though no one was in possession of the belt at midnight, the episode was very touching as Jake and Amy are now engaged. This episode was funny, and emotional and I would give it a 10/10.

Season 6, Episode 16: Cinco De Mayo, 10/10

Instead of taking place on Halloween, this year’s heist takes place on Cinco De Mayo in order to distract Terry from his sergeant exam. This time the squad had to try to win the heist and also make sure Terry got to his sergeants exam on time. In the midst of all this chaos, Terry got knocked out and everyone had to rush him to the exam, only to find out that this was all a ruse planned by Terry himself. To add on Terry's victory of the heist, he had also passed the sergeants exam weeks ago. This episode was fun with great twists, so I would give it a 10/10.

Season 7, Episode 11: Valloweaster, 8/10

The name of this episode is weird and has many different celebrations encompassed into it, but so does the episode itself! The detectives had to steal 4 gems, however due to certain mishaps (Cheddar and Scully eating the gems), the heist was pushed back to Valentine;s day and Easter. This episode was full of confusion, good jokes and in the end, Rosa possessed all the gems. I would give this episode a 8/10.

Season 8, Episode 5, 7/10

Hitchcock and Rosa were no longer at the NYPD, but they were still welcome to Jake in the heist. Hitchcock surprised everyone that he was not on vacation, and he was the winner of this heist. This was the show finale, and I rate it a 7/10.
