For years we have talked about climate change, the conversation always seems to take a dark and fearful turn. For example, people may talk about the rising ocean levels caused by melting glaciers or the weather patterns are drastically shifting each year. Yet, the question that often goes unanswered is: What can we ACTUALLY do to limit the devastating effects of climate change?

The primary focus of ‘doom and gloom’ is stirring the emotion of helplessness within people. We often hear the phrase: “We’re running out of time!” so much that it feels like no matter what you do to help the environment it will be pointless. However, if we start to hear more about the sustainable outcomes that are working to heal this planet a sense of motivation sparks in us, that we too can make a difference. A prominent example of this is Denmark's wind power energy. The country has been using wind powered energy for decades, showing us that renewable energy does help reduce pollution and lower climate change. Similarly , countries like Uruguay have implemented carbon tax to lower the rate of CO2 emissions in the environment and in return encourage the adoption of cleaner energy alternatives. Furthermore, the revenue generated from these taxes can be used to invest and support renewable energy projects. Stories like this act as proof that progress is truly possible and that we can reduce the effects of climate change.

To conclude, focusing on the doom and gloom does not help anything; the problem of climate change is real but so are the solutions that help to stop it. Therefore, we should start seeing climate change as an ongoing challenge that can be achieved by dedication and sustainability.
