Tyler, the Creator is an American rapper, record producer, director and fashion designer. Over the span of his career, he has been seen as an influential figure in the music industry for his incredible talent. On October 28, 2024, Tyler dropped a new album called CHROMAKOPIA. This album consists of 14 songs with a play time of 53 minutes. I’m not an avid Tyler, the Creator fan but I can appreciate his craft and talent from an unbiased standpoint. This review isn’t meant to demean his work but instead provide another perspective of his newest album.

Firstly, this album carries itself differently than his previous projects. The vibe is confrontational, dark, mature and chaotic. I feel like this album represents a separation between Tyler, the Creator and Tyler Gregory Okonma. Each track touches on personal aspects of who Tyler is as a person and as an entertainer.

Specifically, the song Noid practically tells us everything we need to know about how hard it can be to keep certain things private when you are a celebrity and brings awareness to the paranoia that comes with fan interactions and relationships, platonic or otherwise. Another song that gives us a glimpse into Tyler’s personal life is Like Him. This song is raw and emotional. The lyrics guide us through Tyler’s thoughts regarding his absent father and dealing with seeing his father within himself now that he’s older. Like Him addresses the pain of being somewhat like his father while reminding him that he never had the chance to build a relationship with him. If anything, this song displays the fact that the closest to a relationship with his father that he’ll ever have is a relationship with himself.

The songs I would recommend most are:

Noid (8/10)

Like Him (8.5/10)

St. Chroma (7/10)

Rah Tah Tah (9/10)

The entire album rating: 7.7/10

As a whole, this album is beautifully crafted. We are seeing a new version of Tyler, the Creator which is fresh and contrasts from what we’ve seen in the past. While CHROMAKOPIA isn’t my favorite album, I appreciate being able to see this type of growth from Tyler and I can’t wait to see what else he shares with us in the future.
